  • The classic-style Constellation Bigband from Freiburg plays a varied repertoire of jazz – from swing classics, fierce and thrilling Bebop-uptime and hot Latin rhythms to explosive rock classics, Jazz standards in modern arrangements and pop songs that can hardly be recognized in their big-band guise: a highly diverse program and enthusiastic musicians guarantee a highly entertaining musical event.
The Constellation Bigband features stylistic variety and also many high-class soloists, combines disciplined orchestral sound with inspired solos.

Its current repertoire includes classics by musicians such as Count Basie ("Wind Machine"), fierce Latin-songs by Bob Mintzer ("Incredible Journey") and Chick-Corea ("Spain"), new arrangements of standards such as "Ladybird” or "St. Thomas” and pop songs such as "Millionär" by „Die Prinzen" – all of them witty, a little bit weird and highly sophisticated.

The band was founded in 1980; from 1998-2011 it was directed by Martin Ohm; since 2011; Jochen Stitz has taken over as musical director; his goal is to further broaden the band’s stylistic variety.

From the beginning, the band has been a highly welcome guest in locations such as Jazzhaus Freiburg or at events such the "Jazzkongress” series; it also gave performances at "Gipfel du Jazz" and at the Montreux Jazz Festival and cooperated with SWR on the occasion of its "Mission Olympic" competition at Konzerthaus Freiburg. The band gives regular jazz performances in typical jazz locations and at dance galas.
